A RARE 15.04mm MODEL 1857 PRUSSIAN DREYSE NEEDLEFIRE (ZUNDNAELGEWEHR) CAVALRY CARBINE, CIRCA 1871, serial no. 2272,
with 15in. octagonal to round barrel rifled with four deep grooves, fitted with leaf rearsights, the tall triangular fore-sight is protected by the winged nosecap, the breech marked with Prussian military proof and inspection stamps and on the knoxform 'STAHL' and on the left side of the action 'SOMMERDA / MOD: 57' and on the right, the year of manufacture 1871, full walnut stock with raised cheek-rest, the butt stamped with the cypher of King Wilhelm of Prussia and Emperor of Germany, brass butt-cap two piece iron and brass trigger-guard, and iron nosecap

Other Notes: Wilhelm I was King of Prussia from 2nd January 1861 and German Emperor from 18th January 1871, the year this rifle was made.
The Dreyse needlefire system formed the basis of the worlds first bolt action breech loading military rifle adopted and used in conflict by any nation
